About the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program

Our program has been active in Northern Virginia since 1997. Volunteers are trained to collect data about the health of streams.  Equipment and training are provided. The program is coordinated by the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District (NVSWCD).  To find out more about NVSWCD vist our website at:   http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/nvswcd/

Stream Monitoring Coordinators

I'm looking to create a team of four volunteers to train to co-lead stream monitoring workshops and assist with our stream monitoring program.

All training will be provided. Contact Joanna for more information at jcornell@gmu.edu.

Environmental Survey

You may enjoy participating in a research initiative designed to gain an in-depth understanding of the attitudes and emotional triggers that encourage or prevent ecologically-friendly activities. The interview is conducted using a unique conversational simulator known as Socrates, unlike any other survey that you may have experienced in the past. It works like an Internet chat: it will pose a topic to which you may type as short or long a response as you like. Socrates then will follow up on your response in order to obtain a deeper understanding of your comments. The conversation will take 20 to 25 minutes. Your responses will remain anonymous.
